An Alien
And now at this day comes Jeremiah Featherson an Alien and makes application for Naturalization and files his declaration in the words and figures following to wit
State of Indiana
Jennings CountyTo Honorable Probate Court of said County at is May Term 1842 - Jeremiah Featherston an Alien & subject of Victoria now reigning Queen of England, Scotland & Ireland begs leave to make report of himself to become a citizen of the United States, he reports that he was born in the County of Roscommon in Ireland. That he emigrated to the United States from the Port of Liverpool in England about the last of May 1831 and landed in the City or Port of New York on the 5 day of September 1831 and that at the time of his landing in the United States he was about 19 years of age and further that since his arrival in the United States he has continued to make it his home & to be governed by its government from the time of his landing in the United States he continued about one week in the City of New York Then he went into the State of New Jersey where he continued about three years thence to the State of Pennsylvania where he resided nearly two years Thence to the County of Jennings in the State of Indiana where he has remained about five years and where he expects making his place That it is and has always been his Bonified his intention from the time of his coming into the United States to become a citizen of the same. That he never held any title of Nobility under any foreign prince or Potentate State or Soverinty whatever, that he is now nearly 40 years of age and in addition to his formar intention it now is his Boni fide intention to become a citizen of the United States & to forever renounce all allegiences & fedility to any foreign Prince, Potentate State or Soverign whatever & more particularly Queen Victoria Queen of England, Scotland & Ireland this 9th day of May 1842his

And now comes John Walker and William R. Walker good and reputable citizens of the United States and and after being duly sworn ? their oaths deposeth and say that they have been acquainted with the said Jeremiah Featherson whose proper name is Jeremiah Featherston for more than two years and they further say that he has resided in Jennings County in the State of Indiana for four years last past that during that time he has conducted himself as a man of good character and appears to be attached to the principals of the Government of the United States. It is therefore considered by the Court that the said Jeremiah Featherston be admited to citizenship as a citizen of the United States upon taking the necessary oath required by law which oath is administered to him by the Clerk of said Court now here in open Court.
