Our best guess is that GENEVIEVE used the surname FAYARD because she was in reality the illegitimate daughter of MARIE LOUISE FAYARD and JEAN BAPTISTE BAUDRAU, III. This couple did not marry legally until February 10, 1801. In Louisiana, at that time, fathering a child outside of marriage was a serious crime punishable by imprisonment.

JACQUES FAYARD appears to have been a fictitious name used to conceal a crime. MARIE LOUISE FAYARD also gave birth to a daughter named FRANCOISE who was supposedly fathered by a FRANCOIS CARCAUX - a man who apparently also never existed.
