Subject The document begins by reciting that Richard Smith died in 1823 leaving his property of his wife Sarah for her lifetime and then to his son Robert Smith. Sarah died in 1832. His estate consisted of both freehold and leasehold property in Cockermouth. In 1871 Robert Smith sold / assigned it all to Henry Allason who then mortgaged it to Sarah Harryman for £400. Sarah Harryman appears to be a party to this contract only to acknowledge that the mortgage has now been repaid and to complete the formalities accordingly. Henry Allason is now selling the property to Henry Fawcett for £236. Joseph white comes into it because he holds the deed to some of the property and covenants to produce them if required. The freehold property consists of a plot of 5190 square yards in Cockermouth bounded on the East by an intended new road. The leasehold property does not appear to be described in any detail, but is held for the residue of a term of 999 years. Various memoranda added on the back mention later transactions relating to this property up to 1931. It appears that the new road was then called Mayo Street. Notify Administrator about this message?
