Mark- I think it's a family preference. My elder brother and sister say Favre like "have" "ray" only with an F in the front. I believe my pronounciation came from a northern influence of "Fa" "V" "ray". My cousins pronounce it almost like my brother and sister- F "have" "ree", which to me, sounds ridiculous. I find it interesting, though, my son defends his pronounciation that sounds quite like yours! So, you aren't alone! Maybe a generational thing! Sort of, my name ain't Danny, it's Daniel. LOL I think the biggest bug of them all is that people don't seem to pay attention to the letter placement. I have heard that Brett Favre got fed up with correcting people, and left it at that. Have you traced your lineage overseas? Maybe that might be a clue as to why your Favres are pronouncing it different? I say this, because my Favres are German, with some surrounding country's influence, and that is how we got our pronounciation. Also, where are your Favres from? Mine migrated from New York into Wisconsin, down to Texas and Oklahoma, some spread out in Alabama. We are not part of the Louisiana branch, or any of the French lineages.
