Patsy-

Nothing has annoyed me more in my life, Favre being my maiden name, as the mispronounciation. Of course, it could never be helped, so I figured I couldn't wait to be married. My peeve now? Having to spell my married surname! Can't win for losing. LOL
HOWEVER, my pronounciation-

Fa- like in the song, doe, ray, me, sew, FA...
V- like Viper
Ray- like the sunshine

FAH-V-RAY

My understanding is, when I did my family genealogy, that the original spelling of Favre in Munchenwiler, Switzerland, is FAWER, which is where my family is from. Though Fredrick may be right on the French thing, my Swiss Favres are extremely german. My understanding is, too, like most of us Favres, Brett Favre got tired of correcting, and just said, sure, that's what it is. It's amazing, because alot of people I know have asked me why it's pronounced that way, if it isn't spelled that way.

I think it's all in who you are- my brother, who lives way up north in New England says:

Faah- like aghh
V- like the Viper
Re- like remind

I'm amazed he says the R! LOL Sorry, New Englanders! Just had to say it! Like I said, it's all in who you are, and how you want to hear it, and maybe you AND your husband are both right.

:D

PS- Brett and I aren't related- he is too Cajun French- I am too Swiss German on that side! (From Finland on my other)
