Thank you for the post. I have been wondering about Nancy. I guess the first big question is when was she born? I have a copy of the 1870 US Census that has a Nancy living with Vennuse Frosair and she is 10, meaning she was born around 1860.

In the 1880 Census we have what looks like "Venos Forjas," his daughter Nancy Stay, and his granddaughter Felina Stay. At that time this Nancy is 20. This is likely the same Nancy.

Perhaps there are more than one Nancy. I found a record from Bedford, NH. It appears to be a second marriage for Nancy Fosher and Arthur T Atwood, dated October 17, 1923. Nancy's parents are listed as Venice Fosher, Dead at 90, and Frances Pippin, Dead at 106. However, the marriage record says Nancy is 49 years old. To be 49 in 1923 that puts her birth around 1874. (I'm fairly convinced her father was born in 1819 so that would but him at 55 at the time of her birth.)

I have found out Sylvanus or Venice or Venant or Vennuse, or however else his name may be listed, is buried at Saint Joseph's Church in Coopersville, Clinton, New York with his wife on, I think, Mason Road. According to one website (, their tombstones read

Vanice / FORSHER / Died / Dec. 16, 1902, / AE. 88 Ys. /
Francis (sic) / PAPIN / His Wife / Died / June 13, 1907, / AE. 93 Ys. /
Ephraim / FORSHER / 1857 - 1941 /

I guess the next question is, do you think any photographs exist of them? That would be excellent to have.

I found a marriage record for Venance and Francoise in the Drouin Collection on Unfortunately I do not understand French. From what I can read they were married July 17, 1838. His parents are Jean Baptiste Latour dit Forget and M Josephte Huppe Ste Croix. She is called "Francoise illigitime."

Any information to fill in some of the gaps would be excellent. I noticed a great many of them moved to Bedford. I have seen records for a bunch online.
