Hi Joyce - thanks for the reply. I e-mailed you after your last messsage, but it failee to go thru. No, I don't have a lap top - I take lots and lots of notes! I am really just getting into computers - my notes drive my son crazy - he says I'm SO unorganized! Olga Laurent started her gen. on the Laurent family, and that pulled a lot of other families into her research. After her death, her family gave all of her notes, workpapers, etc to Nichols St. U. in Thibadaux - they were bound, published and distributed to libraries all over south LA. I saw the volumns (10, I think) in Laplace. There was quite a bit on the Faucheuxs, especially on PierreClerfait, who married Marie Eliza Tassin in 1851. When I go to these libraries, courthouses, etc I'm looking for voter reg, Marriage records, birth and death records, old newspapers, land deeds. Then there are the church records, which are excellent - when one is Catholic and from south LA, the church records are very helpful, as they documented everything. I wish my Baptist relatives had such good records! I'm trying to get copies of as many official documents on my direct line of ancestors on all branches of my family as possible - birth, marriage, death, etc. I did have success on my trip, especially in that I found relatives that I had not known existed and have leads on several others. I have to make some phone calls, get on the net, etc. The father of Pierre Clerfait, also named Pierre, married Marie Felonise Laurent in 4-1828, and there may be another Laurent connection. I've had catch-up to do since I returned home and have put the gen. on the back burner for now. You may e-mail me if you like. Where do you live? I'm in Ft. Worth ,TX - we are so fortunate in that one of the 13 National Archieves and Record Centers in the US is located here, about 5 miles from my home - I practically lived there for months! Hope to hear from you soon Claire
