The "Fast" surname appears to have been "Vast" in the Netherlands for at least some of them. The oldest records that I have found are from the Flemish Mennonite Church in Danzig, W. Prussia. There were a number of families that used the name Vast in the latter 1600's and early 1700's that changed to Fast between 1727 and 1757. They came from the Netherlands, but it doesn't tell what area. You would think that they were from Flanders, since they were in the Flemish Church, but that was not always the case. The Frisian and Flemish Churches had some different beliefs. It was not that they were just from different areas. There were congregations of both in some parts of the Netherlands.
