He enlisted in the spring of 1778 or 1779, serving seven months under Captain Joseph Neel, Col. Zachariah Morgan's Virginia Regiment.
In May or June of 1780, he substituted for his brother Jacob at Jared's Ford (Fort) and served in Col. Miner's Virginia Regiment for one month, and later for two months at the same place under the same Colonel.
In June or July, he enlisted in the Fayette County, Pennsylvania, cavalry under Captain Michael Gatt or Catt for General George Rogers Clark's ill-fated expedition against the Indians. It was during this campaign that he was attached to Col. Lockry. The Indians under the command of the British ambushed Col. Lockry’s unit. Many were killed, including Col. Lochry. Christian Fast was wounded and taken prisoner. He spent a year with the Delaware Indians before escaping.
He qualified for, and received, a military pension for his service.
