Allen:
You need to know that your 5th great grandfather Nickolaus was not a Foust. His German birth record list his name as Fast, as noted below.

From Lutheran Church records of Klingenmünster, Landesarchiv, Speyer, F6, 145:

1727: Niclas, Jacob Fast's, citizen and inhabitant of Göcklingen and his wife Margareta's, born Fuchs', little son was born at midnight between the 26th and the 27th of December, baptized the 28th. Godparents were Nicklas Hack, citizen and shoemaker of Göcklingen and his wedded housewife Eva Maria.

Check out the following web site. Click on the "Nicklaus Fast" link, then "Why do some Fast family members use the surname Faust?".

Also, you may write to me for my book "Nicklaus Fast of Gocklingen, Germany". I devote a chapter on "Who Was Nicklaus Faust?", and a second chapter entitled "From Fast to Faust". My street address is on the above web site, just click on my name at the bottom most screens.
Robert G. Fast
