Alexander Faires, Battle of Fishing Creek S.C.

I have an old Forward containing information on Alexander Faires/Faris/Farris (pick a spelling) that states, "The S.C. Historical Commission in Columbia, S.C., has proof of Alexanders' militia duty in 1780,1781 and in 1782 and after the Battle of Fishing Creek he had made a claim for a gun he had lost in the battle."

It is my understanding that the Historical Comm. no longer exist. Have any of you actually seen these documents, made photocopies or know how or if they might be found now?

Have any of you obtained DAR or SAR membership through this ancestor? (Alexander Faires (sp?)1740-1824

Any info welcome,
Scott Farris
