There is a web site pretaining to Gideon and Sarah (McSpadden) Farris family of Washington County, Virginia that some of you may not be aware of....
It's name is: "SOMEWHERE IN TIME"It pretains to ....THE ANCESTORS & DESENDENTS OF DORIS TORRANCE COLEMAN. Doris is related to Gideon and Sarah through their son, Thomas Farris/Faries, that married a McNEW.
Doris has a beautiful web-site that she and Phil Hodgkins made back in 2001/2 before she passed away on March 27, 2002. Doris had put in several years of research and had made contact with myself and Wilmer Grubbs who made contributions to her information and she was very gracious to use them on her site.
Here is how you can hopefully find Doris"s & Phil Hodgkinsbeautiful work.(It's one way anyway)
1.Go to Google search engine and type in her name...
"DORIS TORRANCE COLEMAN"CLICK SEARCH...
2.Click on.."SOMEWHERE IN TIME"wait for page to load.
click on "next" at bottom...
3.Her family page....click on "Next" again at bottom ofthat page...
4.You will get the "GENEALOGY" page...here you will find several family web sites to go to...FARRIS, McSPADDEN, McNEW and others.
5. On the FARRIS FAMILY site about 1/3 down the page is
a box of roses in the center of the page...click on that box of roses and you will get the "DECENDENTS OF WILLIAM FARRIS/FARIS" written and contributed by Wilmer Grubbs.Good work Wilmer!Doris"s site is worth checking out if you are decendent of Gideon & Sarah.
Here I need to say that in 1982 when I sent my information in to be printed in "The Peoples history of Claiborne County, Tennessee"...at that time...I had searched for Gideon and Sarah's sons, Robert and Gideon Jr., in all the surrounding countys in both Virginia and Tennessee in the l840/50/60 census for them and not finding them...I in error supposed that they had both died between 1840-50 in Claiborne county.I (Dorman Dick Farris) WAS WRONG!!!
Robert and Gideon Jr. had moved to Edger County, Ill and Indiana and I didn't know it at the time....Sorry...I goofed....some of you have probably already found them by now.
Also, had I known then...in 1982...(when I sent that information to Claiborne County) that it would have been used (apparently) as a "SOURCE" for Gideon and Sarah.I would have included more dates, names etc. for some of the family members that I named in that bit of information. But at the time, there was no way for me to know that...so PLEASE forgive my assumtion that Robert & Gideon Jr. had died when indeed thay had not.
Here also, I will say that although I do not know what source or proof Doris Coleman had in regard to some of her listings of Gideon's father, William, being born in 1820 in Down County Irland or Antrim. and his (William's) parents being Edward and Agnes Farris/Faries. (Such information and proof... all of us would like to have. If any of you out there know of any such source or proof of that information...Please post it on this forum.
I for one wish to thank Doris Torrance Coleman and Phil Hodgkins for their research and wonderful piece of work in making this site and family information available for all the rest of us to see and use.
GO CHECK IT OUT....ENJOY!
GOD BLESS YOU DORIS-HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!
