Relation between Farrior/Farrier/Ferrier
Posted by: Robert Farrior Date: June 04, 1999 at 13:46:12

I was wondering if someone had found how/when/why the names changed. Also, I understand that the general view is that the name is a trade-based surname for someone who shoes horses. However, has any research been done around the possibility that the name could have been derived from the village of Ferrieres in Normandy as in Walkelin de Ferrieres and his descendants that fought with William the Conqueror at the Battle of Hastings and eventually became the Earls of Derby?

Regards,

Robert William Farrior
