Here's the story I got from my G-mother concerning CV's death:

It happened in Anniston when Osie was 7 yo (so, about 1912). CV had sold about 100 hogs that day and stopped by the drugstore to buy a drink. Selling hogs was one of the ways he earned money; however, the Farrells did own a good portion of Anniston at the time, too. So, he was walking home on the railroad track when someone saw him who knew he had a good portion of the hog-money on him. That guy came up behind him and knocked him on his head, then laid him out on the tracks. When the train started coming toward him, it blew and blew and blew it's horn, and they say he got up on his hands and knees, but it was too late, and the train hit him.

I didn't think to ask how Ella died... answers why the kids were put into the orphanage in the first place... but I'll be talking to them again tonight. G-mother also said that Ella was a Farrell, a cousin to CV. She helped out with Woody after his mom died, and they got married shortly after.

She also said Uncle Bob and Uncle Sly were two of CV's brothers. There were 7 of them altogether who immigrated to the US to get away from the Potato Famine, 2-3 of them were his sisters. She said they landed in South Carolina where they changed their name from O'Fearghal (sp?) to O'Farrell. But then Uncle Bob killed a guy there, so they changed their name again, dropping the O', and moved to Alabama.

She doesn't own any pics of CV. She said Woody had all of the family stuff in a trunk (including the family bible), and he destroyed it before he died. She also said that an Aunt Bernice (Wood is her last name I think...) has a lot of the family stuff because her son is/was the oldest of the next generation (my dad's gen).

Where is the family reunion taking place in GA? My G-mom said there was going to be another one in TX this year, which is closer to where I live.
