Dear Janie,

Thanks for your message from the other day.

I'm not aware (to date) of any descendants of Landon Farrar, but he had many siblings of whom several had descendants. My gggg grandmother Elizabeth (Farrar) Wharton was one of his sisters, and at least three other siblings had descendants as well.

Their father, Richard Farrar, has been mentioned in many posts to this forum in the past. Very briefly, he resided in St. Ann's Parish, Albemarle Co., Virginia; was married 2 May 1769 in Louisa Co., Virginia to Susanna Shelton, and d. before 2 Nov 1807. Many of their children continued to live in Albemarle County and nearby, but three of their daughters and their husbands were known to have relocated to Davidson Co., Tennessee ca. 1804 or soon thereafter:

Lucinda (wife of Samuel Leake Wharton)
Elizabeth (2nd wife of Samuel's brother, George)
Sophia (wife of Dr. Samuel Leake, a Wharton cousin)

I had no prior trace of Landon's whereabouts. There was an indenture (I will post the details later) recorded in Albermarle Co. on 2 October 1815 concerning the division of the deceased Richard Farrar's estate. Lucinda and Elizabeth were not parties to this, presumably because they had received some gift at their marriage and (being in Tennessee) no obligation was recognized involving them. Landon Farrar was NOT party to this indenture, and I had presumed that he may well have died beforehand - in error.

It then appears that Landon Farrar had gone to seek his fortune in the Wild West (i.e. Tennessee), perhaps due to his sisters' successful relocation there. One hint of an ongoing connection: of the 7 children of George Wharton and Elizabeth Farrar, there was a son Landon Farrar Wharton (b. 8 Feb 1813) who was clearly named in his uncle's honor - perhaps Landon Farrar was in fact his godfather. I see no other trace of the name among the other siblings, so possibly Elizabeth was the sister who took Landon Farrar in on his arrival in Tennessee (a guess).

I will post further information later, but will gladly send you more detailed information about the family and ancestors of Richard Farrar. Please feel free to email me directly at

Looking forward to the resolution of your Walker/Farrar conundrum!

John
