Hi Jeanine,
My Farrar family has stayed in VA, are descendants of William the immigrant. I have met related Farrar lines that have also stayed in VA and we all pronounce it with emphasis on the F more like Farrah. The last "r" not pronounced. Not as the French or Italians would by putting the emphasis on the "rarr". I have met cousins from other states that do pronounce it "rarr". Many years ago, I saw a movie in which the Farrar and Lacy family names played a major role and Farrar was pronounced as we do here in VA. on the trail from Jamestown out to the wilderness of Henrico, Louisa, Albemarle, Nelson, Amherst Co's. Would love to hear from other VA Farrars about your pronunciation of the family name.
