John:
I got a copy of Alvahn Holmes' book and in what I read, I think there are some early researched errors but can't prove them at this time.
The book on pages 15 through about 18 talks of my family line in Caswell and Person Co., NC.My John Farrar was involved in land deals with Peter Farrar in both Caswell, Person, and Chatham Co., NC. They both sold property along the Rockfish River in Amherst Co., VA around 1772, they bought property next to each other along the Bushy Fork of Flat River in what is now Person Co., NC around 1778 and Peter witnessed John's will in 1799 in Chatham Co., NC.Also, Peter sold property to Benjamin Jopling, son of Catherine Farrar Jopling of Amherst Co., VA, daughter of old John Farrar (d. 1769 in Albemarle Co., VA) who was a son of Thomas and Katherine Perrin Farrar of Goochland and previously Henrico Co., VA.The Joplings were also living next to my Farrars on the Bushy Fork in North Carolina.
William Moore, my 4th great grandfather who was a grandson of John Farrar of Person and Chatham Co., NC bought land from Benjamin Jopling in 1803 in Person Co., NC along the Bushy Fork. The original land deed is in William's wife Penelope Cobb Moore's trunk still in a branch of my family in North Carolina to this day.I have a copy of it from my distant cousins.
There are too many coincidences of contact and location in North Carolina for my family not to be part of the John Farrar family of Albemarle Co., VA. I think that the Holmes book made a mistake and got the wrong Peter and John Farrar in Goochland as sons of John Farrar of Albemarle. There is no seeming connection or mention of each others' families or use of names in the Goochland Co. family with the Albemarle Co. and Amherst Co., VA family. My family was living in the midst of the Farrar and Jopling families of Amherst Co. and moved with them all to North Carolina and were in land records and witnessing each others' deeds and wills.I think that the family connection is quite clear. We just need a little more proof to solidify it.I hope to prove it so the Holmes book can also be updated. The research is wonderful, but there are some assumed relationships in the earlier research I think that Ms. Holmes was probably not aware of at the time.So much has been uncovered since then.Let me know what you think.
