Greetings All, According to a Queensland Newspaper article the next Farquharson Laird is a truck driver in far North Queensland called Tony 'Bones' Curtis. His mum was a Farquharson. He's been contacted by a British Genealogist who is trying to delve deeper into the Farquharson descendancy to discover the closest link to the Farquharson's of Invercauld. The article mentions Tony is related to the Farquharson brothers who were well known pioneers of Northern Territory and Queensland. If these brothers are the same as I think they are, then I sent the following as part of an email to some people who were interested in the 'Inverway' cattle station which the brothers owned. "We're from the Glen Gairn Farquharsons. Jessie is researching them because QLD family hearsay says we are related to the Gordons and she's trying to verify this. This is what we have so far: Harry Farquharson married Janet (Jessie) Littlejohn 9/8/1818 in the Parish of Leochel-Cushnie. They had numerous children in the Parish of Tarland and Migvie, of which George was one of them, before moving to the Parish of Aboyne and Tanner, where I found them in the 1841 Census. See below. I also found them there in the 1851 Census as well, with only Charlotte and Ada living with them and sadly Harry's gone blind. Piece: SCT1841/170 Place: Aboyne & Glentanner-Aberdeenshire Enumeration District: 1 Civil Parish: Aboyne & Glentanner Ecclesiastical Parish, Village or Island: - Folio: 1 Page: 4 Address: Munandawan Surname First name Sex Age Occupation Where Born FARQUHARSON Harry M 40 Farmer Aberdeenshire FARQUHARSON Jessie F 40 Aberdeenshire FARQUHARSON Flora F 15 Aberdeenshire FARQUHARSON Ada F 7 Aberdeenshire FARQUHARSON Charlotte F 5 Aberdeenshire FARQUHARSON George M 4 Aberdeenshire By 1861, George Farquharson was out here in Oz and married to Jessie Christina Gordon b1839 in NSW and they too had numerous children. George died in 1886 and Jessie died in 1916 both in NSW. Now as to the brothers and how you've listed them "So far we have come up to the original joint owners of this station - 4 Farquharson brothers with the names of ‘Archibald Mossman’ / ‘Henry Gordon’ / ‘JG’ (Hugh) / ‘GCR’ (Colin) – Farquharson." I agree with Archibald M & Henry H G. GCR is George as I don't know his middle names, the "C" could be Colin. But the following brother, John G wouldn't be called Hugh, as he already has a brother Hugh J. We're not sure if the brothers established the NT property or who named it. We do know that the 3 brothers who lived on the property never married or had 'legitimate' children." So let's see if Mr Curtis will be our next Chief of the Farquharson Clan or could it be you?? cheers Dulcie Notify Administrator about this message?
