Thank you for writing, Mark. That's an interesting story regarding Mary's visit to New Haven, CT to visit a Farone relative. It is highly likely that she visited Filomina Farone Battista who lived in New Haven when my husband's grandfather came to the U.S. in November of 1901.The Ellis Island report indicates that he was to go to New Haven to live with his sister, Filomina Battista.Filomina had a daughter, Florence, but I have been unable to determine what happened to her.Filomina, it was said, later moved to Elsmore, N. Y., which is near Albany, isn't it?
Also, there was a sister, Angela Farone, who came over with Michael in 1901 -- she, too, went to New Haven. She married an Alteri, but he was killed. Then she married a Dominic Andrews and they had two children, Grace and Anna.Grace married a Joe Von Ronnie and Anna married a Tangero.I believe they all lived near Albany and were truck gardners. My husband remembers going there and admiring their wonderful gardens. We haven't heard from the family in many years.
Your letter was also very interesting in that I had seen references to the Farone-Faraone name in other parts of Italy and wondered if there could be a connection.Your information will enable me work on the project with more vim someday.
Anything you can help me with would be most welcome.I will share any information I have, which at this time, isn't very much.
Also, please note Cheryle's letter further down in this forum. Are the two Marys one and the same?
Thanks again.
Shirley Farone
