It's unfortunate Wing did not identify the source for Judith Thompson as wife of John Varnum. She is potentially the Judith Thompson found in Rev. Charles N Sinnett, "Our Thompson Family in Maine, New Hampshire and the West" (Concord, NH: Rumford Printing Co., 1907):150-152, who was born c1765, dau of Jonathan and Martha (Thompson) Thompson, and unaccounted for [marriage].He was head of household, 1790 Wales Plantation, Lincoln Co.
However also living Bowdoin in 1790 was Abel, Joseph, John and William Thompson, all of whom had a male and female age bracket 26-44 living in their house. That COULD suggest their age as head of household. Joseph and William also had a male 45 and over, but it is unclear if this was themselves or parent.
There is nothing solid in all of this and some loose ends, but until more positive research turns up, I'm comfortable with Judith Thompson as John's wife.My Vol 3 will
leave to speculation her heritage unless I find the smoking gun. There are many places I haven't researched yet, so the door is wide open.
