Thanks very much to you and to Edith Bartley for the interesting information about Rev. Farnham. The lion statue you reference still stands at Union College. See http://www.union.edu/PUBLIC/ECODEPT/kleind/idol/index.html
Interestingly, the statue is just now being thoroughly cleaned, and I noticed that Rev. Farnham carved an inscription on the side when he presented it to Union.
See: http://www.union.edu/PUBLIC/ECODEPT/kleind/idol/clean_idol.htm
That inscription has been invisible until now, and I am pleased to have been able to find out something about Farnham's career. Thank you.
