George Farnell I was born in Otley ,Yorkshire, England in 1759 and enlisted in His Majesty's 33rd Regiment of Foot at the age of 18. This was General Cornwallis's own personal regiment. He served in this regiment during Cornwallis's Carolina campaign in the American Revolutionary War and surrendered to George Washington at Yorktown ,Va. in 1781 to end the war. He was among the British enlisted men kept as Prisoners Of War for 2 years until the Peace Of Paris was signed in 1783. Upon his release they were shipped back to Halifax ,N.S. where he was drafted into His Majesty's 37th Regiment. He last served in the Late Royal Nova Scotia Regiment from which he was discharged at the reduction of said regiment in 1802. He was married to Margaret Fisher and had 9 children. He reportedly delivered the mail to Newfoundland for several years. He was granted a tract of land in Upper Musquodoboit,N.S. for his service to the Crown.
