John, my limited research shows that Francis could be from one of at least two Farmer families in the area. These two Farmer families were originally from Chesterfield VA, though some with a male connection to the Pruitt family. Their records are also in Amelia and Halifax Co Va until they arrived in Rutherford or Old Tryon Co NC and then went in to NW SC.

Francis appears to be in the same age group as Benjamin of Pendleton, but since this is the only record I have for him anywhere, it's hard to know how Francis fits in. A guess would be that he is a brother to Benjamin. In the following censuses for Pendleton a younger Francis, a widow Mary, and a Josiah are all located in the same place, but I don't know how these Farmers tie in either. Though also in 1790 Pendleton, Benjamin Farmer and many in his family eventually moved to Christian Co KY and then IL very early on. Francis may have gone there too.

I wouldn't be surprised if Francis was connected to the NC Quaker line. I've done even less research there but they are one of the big Farmer families too.

If you have any more on him, please let me know.

Jim
