Linda - It is nice to hear from you. The lineage papers you were given would be correct i. e.: JOHN FARLEY Jr. - Will Written 6th April 1754 Chesterfield County, VA Will Book 1, pgs 200/201. HENRY FARLEY - Will Written 23rd August 1767, Halifax County, Virginia Will Book O, pgs 243/4. JOSIAH FARLEY - Will Written 16th June 1774, Halifax County, Virginia Will Book #1, pg 95. SARAH FARLEY m 20th December 1791 William Stanfield, Halifax County, Virginia Marriage Records. It would not have been necessary for the applicant to have proven anything further back than JOHN FARLEY of the 1754 Will in Chesterfield County, VA., as the rest of the lineage is on record. My work on this phase of the FARLEY FAMILY, the descendancy down from THOMAS FARLEY, was done in 1994-1995, when I first discovered my Farley Heritage. It has only been the last year and a half that I have returned to the research to polish and delve further into the English Records. It all starts in the Virginia Colony with the following: From: Minutes of the Council and General Court 1622-1624 as printed in THE VIRGINIA MAGAZINE OF HISTORY AND BIOGRAPHY, XIX, 1911, pgs 131 - 134 8th . . . 1624 {? Torn} The Oaths of Supremacy & Allegience: From the passengers to Virginia on the ANN before Febuary, 1623. THOMAS FAIRLEY of Worcester in Worcestershire gent which arrived at James Owen Dawson of St. Martins in the fields Cittye the 5th of Sept . . .{torn}. Item: It was the law that all newcomers to the Colony of Virginia were required to register their names, birthplaces, occupation and take the oath of allegience from the very earliest period of the settlement. From there the story continues thru the pages of the Virginia Records in the Counties of James City, Surry, Elizabeth City, York, Charles City, Accomack, Henrico, Chesterfield thru Court Records, County Order Books, Deeds, Probates and Church Records. Eventually spreading out from the family of: JOHN FARLEY, Will Written 6th April 1754, Chesterfield Co., VA and his wife ELIZABETH AKIN {dau of JAMES & SARAH AKIN, as proven by the Colonial Henrico County, VA Court, Deed and Probate Records.***} 1. JOHN FARLEY, Will Written 10th September 1775, Chesterfield Co., VA. 2. MARY FARLEY, m Thomas Womack. Will Written 23rd July 1750, Chesterfield Co., VA. 3. WILLIAM FARLEY Will Written 18th November 1781, Amelia Co., VA. 4. SARAH FARLEY, m Robert Thompson. Will Written 24th July 1776, Charlotte Co., VA. 5. JAMES FARLEY Will Written 10th September 1775, Chesterfield Co., VA. 6. JOSEPH FARLEY Will Written 3rd May 1761, Chesterfield Co., VA. 7. MATTHEW FARLEY Will Written 1st August 1791, Powhatan Co., VA. 8. FRANCIS FARLEY b ca 1710. September 1744 Court Papers, Henrico Co.,VA - Trial of Daniel Welch. 9. HENRY FARLEY Will Written 23rd Aug 1767 Halifax Co.,VA. 10. PETER FARLEY Will Written 22nd Aug 1756 Amelia Co., VA. *** One of the first things a Genealogist takes note of is "NAMING PATTERNS" and the Pattern holds true for the Family of JOHN FARLEY, Jr., and his wife ELIZABETH AKIN. Dau - MARY FARLEY - MARY was John Farley, Jr.'s Mother. Son - JOHN FARLEY - JOHN was John Farley, Jr.'s Father. Dau - SARAH FARLEY - SARAH was ELIZABETH AKIN's MOTHER. Son - JAMES FARLEY - JAMES was ELIZABETH AKIN's FATHER. This - I am sure - does not answer all of your questions but perhaps it illustrates a little how the research has been done. Film after Film after Film of the various County Records coupled with as many Official Virginia Publications as possible. That list at last count covered two legal pages of single spaced typing and the film numbers are possibly more. Last week I received another Farley Chancery Court Record from the Library of Virginia contained in the Loose Papers of Chesterfield County, Virginia. These Papers have not been available except in the Library Archives and only recently been catalogued. They are not filmed. It was in those same "Loose Papers" that I found my own Farley Family History. It has not been easy. Respectfully, Lois Notify Administrator about this message?
