Charles Farley- 1840-1900
I am still looking for my Farleys. If anyone can help, I would be so grateful.
Joseph Farley b. in N.Y. and Electa Little b. in N.Y. were married in Ashtabula Co. Ohio in Jan. of 1834.
They had the following children
Hiram
Charles b. in Mar. of 1840-41
Mary
Elizabeth
Charlotte
Amanda
Charles was my Grandfather. I found him on the census in Ohio in 1860. He was listed as a shoemaker. Would have been of age for the Civil War, but was'nt. How could he have gotten out of this? His Dad died in 1853 and
to my knowledge there was no getting out because of hardship. Was there a religion back then that men were able to avoid the war?
Another problem. I found a Charles Farley b. in Ohio on the Michigan 1870 census. He was living in the home of Denis Callahan b. in Ireland. and was listed as a farm laborer. I found him on the Webster Co. Wva. 1880 census where he was listed as a carpenter. He was living at the home of John McGuire b. in Ireland. The next year he m. my Grandmother Mary Alice Hammond, and they had eight children. He died around 1900.
The age is not right for the 1860 and 1870 census. Could there havebeen that much of a mistake? Please help if you can. My Grandfather is going to be the death of me!!
