Farland/Ferling/Farling/ McFarland- HELP!!!

Hello, Farland fans,

I am having a very hard time tracking down this family name. Sarah Ferling/Farling is in the 1850 and 1860 Clinton Co. Indiana Census records, with one and then two children, but no husband listed either time. No record in 1870 that I can find. In 1880, she is Sarah Farland, in Ionia Co. Michigan. In 1900, she is a servant in a household in Maple Valley, Montcalm, Michigan. Can't find a death record for her at the county courthouse. She is my only hope for getting further back in lineage. Does anyone have any suggestions or help? Her children were John W. and Mary E. She had 4 according to the i900 census, but only one living then which was our gggrandmother, Mary E. She is once referred to as Sarah McFarland on her daughter's marriage application.
