Kalman Farkas NYC Helen Danko
Kalman Farkas (grandfather) arrived in NYC and worked as a furniture maker for Steinway Pianos.I was always told that had he stayed in Hungary he would have been a Baron. He was very adept on horseback, but hated it.He married Helen Danko from Pest. They had a son Joseph and another Louis (my father)
When my father was around 5 years of age, they went to Russia to teach carpentry. It was a huge mistake and they returned to the US but settled in California (Los Angeles).Grandpa hated to be cold.
Louis (Sep 22, 1919- August 20, 2006) lived most of his life in CA, moved to Washington state in 1990.
My husband and I want to visit Hungary this year and see if we can find any distant family.Does anyone have any thoughts on the best way to do that?Where to stay (we are on an extremely tight budget) and who to contact in the country to get more information.
Thank you so much
