Dear Farris folk,
I am the group administrator of the Baughan DNA project. I learned through DNA testing that my g,g,g,g grandfather was most probably a Farris man from Henrico County-Virginia. As a result, I have gotten closely involved with a group of Farris men who have all had their y-chromosome DNA tested. We have about 30 or so men whose results I am tracking who are related through their DNA.
We need more Farris men to be tested. We have identified at least three distinct groups of related Farris men. Those men who descend from James Esom Farris have a very distinct DNA sequence. The descendents of Champion/Solomon Farris have another very distinctive DNA sequence.
We have also established what we believe to be the DNA sequence of the immigrant ancestor, Richard Ferres, who was transported as a servant to the Virginia colony sometime prior to 1636.
Prices on DNA testing have been falling since the technology was first adapted for genealogical research purposes. A 37 marker test is very affordable.
We are learning some very interesting things about our Farris ancestors but we need more men to be tested to help fill in the empty lines.
I hope you will give serious consideration to being tested and joining the Ferriss DNA project with Family Tree DNA.
Looking forward to meeting you soon.
