Farago / Shparago surnames - Sephardic

I am researching Farago as a possible original surname for Shparago family in the Ukraine who were Sephardic Jewish and may have links to Portugal, Hungary and Chile. Would like to connect with anyone with Farago name. My great grandmother's maiden name was Shparago and I have some living distant cousins with that name. But we do not know of the origin and think it might be a transliteration, possibly from Farago. Please post a message or email me at didado@mindspring.com if you know anything that might help determine if there are any Sephardic links. Sincerely, Diane Kriegman Claussen, Atlanta, GA
