Further to the previous discussion as to whether FANTHORPE and FANSHAW are variants of the same name. FANTHORPE and FANSHAW are certainly discrete surnames, and in over 24 years of research into the Fanthorpe/Faunthorpe surnames by ourseves (we are members of the Guild of One Name Studies for this name) no connection has ever been proved. Therefore, Fanshaw is certainly not an acceptable historical variant of Fanthorpe.
