FANNING, JAMES H. b. abt. ALABAMA 1831

I would love to hear from anyone who may have information on the Fanning Families from Alabama, County unknown. James H. Fanning was born abt, 1828 to 1831. 1847 Lawrence Co., Tn. married, but the 1850 Lawrence Co. Census state he was from Alabama, Father from N.C., mother from Virginia. I have hit a brick wall, I have also noticed there are a few trees with the James Fanning either assumed dead or no information on him.
I somehow feel this may be the James I am trying to connect with. I have tryed to relate to the middle initial "H"! What could it stand for? I would appreciate any information that might lead to even a clue as to who his parents might have been.
