Okay, that's beginning to click.
Will (who married Dovie) is, I believe, the son of Willis F. McGee and Cordelia Groce, better known as Will and Cordy.
Will and Cordy and family lived in Huntsville for a while (1900 or so), and then moved to Jackson County.I could not find any of them in the 1920 census, so I was figuring they'd moved.Maybe they all went to Texas...?Do you know what county?
Anywho, Will and Cordy were ORIGINALLY from Lincoln Co., TN.Will and his brother Elihu (known to the family as "Uncle Lile," spelling unsure) both ended up in Huntsville.Elihu died here in the 1930's and is reputedly buried in historic Maple Hill Cemetery.
They were the brothers of Mary Elizabeth "Betty" McGee, my great-great-grandmother, and Joseph "Joe" Sugg. They were some of the children of Elihu B. McGee and Mary "Polly" Ann Leach.Elihu was one of the children of Jesse McGee and Eustacia "Stacy", said to be a Merriwether, of VA, SC, Madison Co., AL (around New Market), and Lincoln Co., TN, and are the family for whom McGee Hollow ("Holler") was named. There's a whole mob of cousins in this area of the state.
So I am not related to Will and Dovie directly, but it appears I am indirectly...I might add there's a BIG Fanning contingency in this area, too.
BTW, Cordy is the daughter of John Groce and Cincinnati McCoy of Lincoln Co., TN.
