Tom, I found this reading the History of the Fanning Family, Vol. II. It's on genealogylibrary.com. Also mentioned are Elizabeth, Laughlin and John Fannin. Says John was living in Sussex Co. in 1785. But I feel Laughlin sons would have been too young to have land in 1773. The book hints at a link between the CT Fannings and the VA Fannings, but the James Fanning of the south is not related to the Fannings of the north. Colonel David Fanning is supposed to have written a book about his adventures in NC from 1775 to 1783, but I have not found these writings. He should be with your line. Ima Jean
