Ima Jean, On your Thomas Fanning that was on the 1790 Surry Co., NC, Census, do you know where his wifes name listed as Sarah came from? I ask because I think her name may have been Ann Howard, daughter of Abraham and Jane Howard. Jane Howard Allen listed all of her children (all Howards) in her 1805 will in Surry Co., one of which was Ann Fanning. Thomas Fanning was appointed to a road crew August 1789 in Surry Co. Also on the same road crew were a John and William Howard. Ann had slightly older brothers by those names. I am also aware that Thomas Fanning Jr named his oldest son Howard Fanning. And Ann had a younger sister Susannah, wife of Abner Vance. For years had been feeling sorry for Abner as he was pardoned by the VA Legislature, but the pardon papers didn't get to Abington, VA, in time, and Abner was hung. Any ideas?
