Thanks for responding. When I went to the FTMDNA website to get the names of the matches, I discovered that I had counted one twice ... so there are only 9 matches. They are: 12 Marker exact match: Patrick Colm Fanning, James Crawford Fannin, and Darvin Fannin 25 Marker exact match: James Crawford Fannin, Darvin Fannin, David Joel Fannon, Sr., Rudy Wayne Fannin, Albert Vernon Fannon 25 Marker Genetic Distance 1: Patrick Colm Fanning, Ora Neil Fanning, Martin Fannon, Lawrence Randolph Fanning I have been searching for the Fannings who lived in proximity to the Pierces and this is what I have found thus far: There was a John Fanney or Fenna (not sure if he was a Fanning) who was a revolutionary soldier. His wife Julia applied for a widow's pension on Nov. 25, 1845 in Gates County, NC.Pierces in Gates Co, NC in 1786 were the same Pierces from Perquimans Co. NC:Isaac Pierce, Richard Pierce, Pierce, Jacob, Mary Pierce, Christopher Pierce, Abraham Pierce, Abner Pierce, William Pierce . Early Pierces in Perquimans Co. were Abner, David, Thomas, Joseph, James. In 1778 John Fanning married Bathsheba Layden on June 11 in Perquimans Co. NC. Then there is Col. David Fanning who was definitely acquainted with Windsor Pierce who lived at one time in Johnston Co. and later in Randolph Co. Col. David mentions Windsor at least 3 times in his memoirs. I began my research on the Pierce line in 1983. The first day I walked into the library, I found a census that placed my Samuel Berry Pierce with his son and grandson in the same household. Ever since then I have been searching alone, and at times with a group, to find Sam's parents. He lived in Wake County and seemed to hang around with the Pierces who lived there and in Johnston County and Franklin Co. NC. Yet we could not find documentation to prove that he was part of their family. Finally, I resorted to DNA about 4-5 years ago. DNA has proved that he was not one of those Pierces. (He may have thought he was, but DNA says "No".) Knowing the names of the families that were associated with him, I feel almost certain that his roots are in Perquimans Co. NC. I do not know how Windsor Pierce of Randolph County who was associated with Col. David Fanning is related to those early Pierces. It is such a mystery. Currently, I am looking for a single Pierce female with a son who was born about 1781. Gloria Notify Administrator about this message?
