I agree. Could be a good explanation or just plain mystery.

There is such good documentation of a Welcome - John Fannin link in Wilkes Co. Ga. and of a Bryan Jr-John Link in Sussex, with the tie to Laughlin. I just don't have anything from Wilkes back to Sussex and a period between 1787 and 1789. I loose track of Laughlin Sr. after 1785 in Mechlenburg Co. Va. with Laughlin Jr. in Wilkins Co. Ga. before 1790. as is John Hubbard in Elbert andMiddleton not until 1794,Benjamin around 1790 in Elbert.

Of course, the late 1780's were a messy time.
