Ellen FANNING (1848-1920) was born in Hobart Tasmania, the eldest daughter of John FANNIN(G)/FANNON (an Irish soldier in the notorious 99th Regiment) born in Cavan IRL around 1822, and his wife Rosey (Rosanna) DEAN (1825-1875), the daughter of William D (another Irish soldier turned farmer) and his wife Dorothy McMULLEN, Irish immigrants from Birr who settled in the Cassilis region of NSW. Ellen's siblings included Martha Rebecca F (1849-1914), Charles John (1850-1853), Mary Ann (b.1852), George Wm (b.1853), Catherine (b.1855) all born in Hobart, Nathaniel Philip (aka John P)(1859-1909) and Susan (1865-1944)(both born in NSW). In 1868 at Bourke, Ellen gave birth to an illegitimate daughter Clara Louisa, who later took the name JONES when her mother married Richard J in Bourke in 1870. My husband Bill is descended from this daughter Clara Louisa FANNING J, who later went on to marry Andrew SMITH across the far south west Queensland border at Thargomindah. This Andrew S is believed to be Andrew MITCHELL [1859-1930] of the Wollombi near Cessnock in the lower Hunter Valley. I would like to make contact with any researchers out there who knows any more about Ellen F or anyone connected with her family. Dot HALL Notify Administrator about this message?
