Hi Tom: Actually...I'm not positive that Mary's name WAS Fannon/Fannin/Fanning..BUT, she named a son David Fannon COON and there is a grandson named Thomas Fannon COON...so I'm working on a premise that Mary WAS a FANNON as there seems no reason to carry this given name down primary generations without some significance. Because I know about Mary's husband and not much about Mary herself, I have pasted here some data on him. The reason that John Lewis Coon's wife, Mary, was probably at least IN South Carolina at the time of her marriage, was that's where John Lewis was! Also, all of their children were born in SC. All this to say that who ever Mary was...and KUHN/COON researchers believe her to have been a FANNON (etc)....she had ties to South Carolina early enough to have married there, at the very least. John was christened on 20 Nov 1757; sponsors were Lewis & Elizabeth Golsen and Peter Stehely. Amelia Township, Orangeburg Co., SC, Reformed Lutheran Church. 1757 On Sunday Novembr. 20th in Orangeburgh Church. John Lewis, son of Caspar and Anna Maria Kuhn; born September 24th 1757. Suret: Lewis and Elizabeth Golsen and Peter Stehely. (Rev. Giessendanner) On 25 Jun 1775, John Louis (Aged 19) Private in Col. Thompson's Regiment, stated as 5 foot 6 inches tall. On 07 Aug 1775, John Louis is Private, 5th Company Rangers. He was also in Thomas Taylor's Regiment. All children are presumed born in Richland Co., SC Proven for Revolutionary War: National #635342 By 1813 the family was in Wilkinson Co., MS where they are found on 1816 Territorial Census. John Louis Coon Sr.: GA: Passport dated 01 Nov 1811: to cross Indian Territory. He is buried on the west side of Buffalo Creek; about 10 miles NE of Woodville, Wilkinson Co., MS Any ideas?
