Tom,
Achilles & Rose Fannin, Sr. had a son, William, born in Amelia Co., Va. 1749/50 according to the dates found in the Amelia Co. tax lists. He went to Halifax Co., Va. along with his father & was last found there with his wife Mary on February 19, 1783, when they sell their land on Joshua's Creek to Leonard Baker. There are no known children by this couple. He was not the William Fanning & wife Mary of Greensville Co., Virginia. That William was the son of Capt. James & Hannah Smith Fanning, who was a grandson of Edmund Fanning of Stonington, Conn. That Reverend William Fanning was married to a widow named Mary Gray Tazewell. He died in 1782 in Greensville Co., Va.
I wonder if this William Fannin of Halifax Co., Va. might be the one in Clinton Co., Ohio? The Halifax Co., Va. William Fannin is the only William Fannin of the Amelia Co. bunch that I know of being missing. Of course, there could always be other unknown Fannins that might pop up, like sons of Jehu or even Philip, the lost son of Old Bryan Fannin of Amelia Co., but these are wild cards for now.
I agree with you that DNA testing could help solve the question of whether they belong to the Amelia Co. bunch of Fannins. If you find more on this family, please let me know and I will help in trying to find a male Fannin descendant to get that DNA test.
Regards,
Pat Fannin
