Thanks for the information

Michael was indeed in the Army of the Republic of Texas.
His service record is available onthe web site for the Texas Adjutant General under Service Records 1836-1935
According to his enlistment papers, he joined Nov. 25th 1838 in Houston and was discharged with a disability January 1840 in Austin. He served in co. C 1st Regiment of Infantry. On his enlistment, it indicates he is 30 years of age and born in Ireland.

It is nice to know what happened to him. There are a nunmber of late-immigrant Fannin/Fannings knocking around the west. He does not seem to have been caught in either the 1840 or 1850 US census.

With him joining the Texas Army in 1838, he may have been one of the early settlers - before the revolution, or in the first wave of new settlers after the defeat of Mexico in 1836.

Anyone wishing a copy of the service record can get it on line or email me.
