Fannin Branch Road going out of Lawrence County into Carter County. North-central Lawrence County a Fannin Road joins Morgan’s Creek Road. History of Elliott Co., KY, Vol. I and II “The Fannin family of Elliott County was reported in the History Book II to have come to the penal colony in Georgia after 1732. The two brothers escaped and went to Orange, South Carolina where one became the mayor. He appointed his brother tax collector and after the taxes were collected they left with the cash and settled in the part of Western Virginia that became KY. “Peter Fannin was responsible for the Ruin community in the 1800's and built a dam to operate a grist mill for grinding grain on the North Ruin Creek. “The Fannin Post Office was established January 27, 1900 by Bryant Fannin in his store on Middle Fork Creek. It was discontinued in 1958.” “Fannin - a post office established 27 January 1900 by Bryant B. Fannin (1865-1927) in his store on Middle Fork Creek at the junction of present KY 32 and 719. It was discontinued in December 1958.” A bridge crossing Rockcastle Creek near Milo, Martin County, Kentucky was called Fannin Bridge. It was about 5 miles North of Inez near the Lawrence County border. The original was replaced with a new bridge. I don’t know the date. It may have been named for William Henry Fannin, civil war soldier, who lived there between 1870 and 1880 probably before the 1870 formation of Martin County. A book published by the Historical Society showed photos of the bridge as it was around 1940 and the new bridge with the “Dave Fannin” farm in the background. This Dave Fannin was probably a descendant of William Henry Fannin. Notify Administrator about this message?
