Fannin Family Genealogy Forum

Harriet - I've read your many entries on GenForum re. Hopkins and Fannin families. My g-grandmother was Martha Virginia Hopkins (Mrs. John Tyler Childress) b. Jan. 6 1851), daughter of Daniel Hopkins. Her death certificate (d. 1936 at home of her daughter in Wichita Falls TX) lists her mother as "unknown". We know her parents died when she was quite young and she lived with the Plez Jones family in Shelby County TX (shown as P.L. Jones in 1860 Shelby County TX Census). Other than our copy of Daniel Hopkins' 1834-35 land grant from Mexico for a huge amount of land in Texas, we can't find Daniel Hopkins anywhere!! We're thinking our Daniel Hopkins quite possibly lived somewhere other than Texas after the mid 1830's. He would have been about the age of your Daniel Hopkins who married Ceney Fannin. A shot in the dark is that Martha Virginia Hopkins was the youngest child of Daniel Hopkins and Ceney Fannin, and that it is our Daniel Hopkins who lived in Arkansas. I have read your list of their children and their birthdates, and a Martha Virginia Hopkins b. 1851, is not listed. If they had had one more child (Martha Virginia Hopkins) it would likely have been their last child and very likely they died while she was quite young. She may have even lived with one of their older children after her parents died, and possibly ended up in Texas with them. Again, this is a shot in the dark - one of those great genealogical mysteries - but I would appreciate your comments. It is evident you are very knowledgeable about these people. Thanks very much - P. Darlene Childress Trussell - Houston, TX
