I have a posting from Harriett Lora some time ago where she writes David Turnpseed as follows David, It's taken me a long time, but I finally have the documentation to show that my ggg-grandmother, "Coney" Fannin, m. Daniel Hopkins, Dec. 20, 1825 in Newton Co., GA, was the daughter of William Y. Fannin and Catherine Martin. Wm. Y. Fannin was one of the brothers of Isham Fannin, father of Col. James Walker Fannin, i.e., Coney was Col. Fannin's 1st cousin. Coney was the granddaughter of James Fannin and Elizabeth Saffold. I have a list of the children of Daniel Hopkins and Coney* Fannin, if you are interested. They are all named in the will of William Y. Fannin in Randolph Co., AL. They are also listed in the Bible of Daniel and Coney's daughter, Elizabeth Hopkins-Williams. Also, in case you or others are interested, the Southwestern Historical Quarterly, published by the Texas State Historical Association in Austin, TX, has an article just published shedding much new light on the life and family history of Col. James Walker Fannin. Vol. CV5, No. 3, January 2002: "Identity Crisis: Just Who Did James W. Fannin Jr. Think He Was?" *"Coney's" name has been spelled many different ways--she appears as Coney in her marriage record, "Seney" in Bible records; as Cenia, Ceney, Cemey, and even Sarah in 1850 census, her father's will and her death notice, etc. Her name was possibly Cynthia, but that is not confirmed yet. Let me know if you have any questions or comments. Thanks, Harriet I don't know if this is the family you are looking for, but no connection to TExas beyond the relationship to James Walker Fannin of Goliad fame is mentioned. Besides James Walker, there were several Fannin/Fannings active in Texas before 1850. Notify Administrator about this message?
