Fannin/Fanning/Fannon researchers, Ralph is asking any and all researchers for help in finding his Fannin gg grandfather (Silas Fannin's father), and not one person has even responded to his message. Ralph has looked long and hard, and spent considerable time and expense for over 30 years in trying to tie his ancestor, Silas, to the other Fannin families of East KY without any luck. So I am asking all researchers (not just the E KY ones) to put on the back burner whatever research they a now doing, and give Ralph all the help and assistance they can so that this mystery can be solved. This is the least we can do for him, and I am sure it will be most appreciated. Though this is not my Fanning line and lack all the necessary background info on the VA/E KY Fannins/Fannings, I do know a little about them. And Ralph has a lot of info in this message along with other messages he has posted. Think it is evident that Silas Fannin was the great grandson of Achilles and Rose. And the grandson of either Bryant(bc1757) or his brother David (b1759). The first appearance of Silas Fannin appears to be in the 1842 (also 1845 & 1848) PP Taxlist of Lawrence Co., KY. Accordingly, to be taxed a person had to be age 21 or older. This would imply that Silas was born 1821 or earlier. In the 1850 Wayne Co., VA, census, Silas was listed as age 28, calculated birth year would be 1822, so his birth was probably in 1821 and in one of the months of the year after the 1850 census was taken. Silas was born either in KY or VA. Who would have been living in the E KY area at any time during the 1822 to 1842 time frame, of age to be Silas' father and married probably no later than the early part of 1821? Need everyones input on this as there couldn't have been but a few Fannin men that would have met the above criteria in E KY, especially in Lawrence Co. or the immediate surrounding area at that early date. What Fannin men were on the taxlists up to 1842 or in the 1830 or 1840 Censuses? Those that belong to Ancestry or any of the paid genealogical sites or have obtained through research the taxlists or census info, please, please post it so that everyone can take a look at it. And if you are positive that a certain Fannin male that meets the above criteria, but could not have been Silas' father, please say so and your reasoning. I am positive that together all of us can find the answers that Ralph needs or can through elimination, come up with an educated guess as to who this person was. So Pat, Tom, Jim, Dave, Jane, Anna and all of the other E KY reseachers, let's help Ralph find out exactly where his line fits in the Achilles and Rose Fanning line.
