I might be able to shed some light on your Grundy Fann. His parents are unknown, but he lived with Jane (Coulter) Fann as a child and she was living with him on the 1860 Cannon Co, TN census.Elijah Fann was Jane's husband but he died in 1813.She had males:Jackson Fann b. c1814; Grundy b. 1822; and Franklin b. c1820.One researcher said she had heard that Jane had lovers, but that has not been substantiated.During that period in our history, it was not uncommon for a widow to take orphans or abandoned children to raise and sometimes receive a little government money.Locating a father is next to impossible. I have tried it on other foster children. Records were not made in most cases.Sometimes, a guardian was named in the estate records.
Good luck,
