Hi Chuck,

Hope you get this e-mail. I happened to run across your post. I am tracing my husband’s Fancher line and thought you might be interested in a few things I have found. My interest started when my husband’s cousin thought that one of the surviving children from the Mountain Meadows Massacre was his great grandmother. I did the research and found that while our Fancher great grandmother could possibly be related, she definitely was not Alexander Fancher’s 2 year old daughter who survived.

Our Emma (Emily) Fancher was the daughter of John Fancher (Fanshier) who was born in McMinnville, TN in 1815. He married Ann Lewis in Illinois, had Emma in Missouri, and then apparently went back to Illinois as that is where Emma married James Jaques. Later John and Ann went back to McMinnville and were buried there following their deaths in 1888 and 1891. As of this time, I do not know not know if our Fanchers are related to the Arkansas Fanchers.

I do have good info on the massacre which I found in the Rocky Mountain News and in the New York Times. Then in checking census records I found that Alexander’s 2 surviving children were returned in 1859 to Hampton B. and Eliza Fanshier in Carroll County, Arkansas (as shown in the 1860 census). The little girl was named Triphenia D. and her brother was Christopher “Kit.” Triphenia married James C. Wilson and she is buried at the Rule Cemetery in Carroll County. Kit died at the age of 21 and is buried in Sisco Cemetery, also in Carroll County.

In the 1880 census Hampton B. and Eliza are in Boone County, AR and have a son Thomas H. Fancher, age 13. With the Hampton name appearing regularly, I think you are correct in your assumptions of a definite connection between your T.H. and Alexander.

You may already have all this, but if you wish copies, I’ll be happy to mail you what I have. r
