Thanks for your reply, Chris. As a side note, Patrick Fallon married Mary Eliza Neale in March 1799 in London, where they were each well established. He was 32 and owned a successful hat shop and she was highly educated and 17 years old. They had three sons: Thomas, Cornelius Edwin, and Daniel Cajetan. Through considerable labor I was able to determine from the documentary record that Thomas Fallon was actually the child and only son of the Viscount René Chateaubriand, the founder of French romantic literature, flamboyant diplomat, and the person for whom the steak dish on the menu is named. Ch. was in exile in London from 1793 to 1800. He died (childless, so it is said) in 1848 at the age of 80. Ch. paid for the education of Thomas at a French school, le Collège Royale de Amiéns, and Thomas became successful in London in the 1820's. When Ch. was appointed ambassador to London in 1822, Mary visited him, which caused Patrick to learn that Thomas was not his son, and Patrick threw Mary out. She died in Paris ca. 1828. Then Thomas left Europe for the jungles of South America, settling in Tolima province, Colombia. His son, Diego Fallon (1834-1905) became national poet of Colombia. My father, Carlos Fallon (1909-1989) was chief of staff of the Colombian navy when I was born in Cartagena, Colombia in 1938. We immigrated to the U.S. in 1941. I published the results of my research, the story of Mary and Chateaubriand, in the Bulletin of the Chateaubriand Society in Paris in 1996. The next eldest son of Patrick, Cornelius, remained in London until his death, sometime after 1860. I don't know much about the youngest son, Daniel, but will see what I can find out. Dan
