Lynn,
There are two private Fahl family cemeteries just on the outskirts of Auburn, PA.Directions and info are as follows:
1.From Rte.61 going North at Deer Lake make a LEFT onto SR 895 toward Auburn. After you pass a smaller St. John's cemetery on the right begin to look down the road for what used to be Auburn Tube Works but what is now, I believe, Precision Air Co. (usually big tractor trailor trucks around the building near the main road). The road curves slightly to the left, and looking out to the right in the distance you will see a red building which was the Fahl family stables.JUST before the trucking co. make a RIGHT onto a DIRT road. There is a sign about not trespassing, but if you're family and visiting the graves no one will bother you.Follow this road bearing right and pass the stables and partly around the next building. You can park right there and walk over to the cemetery where the big tree is standing in the field. You should be able to see the iron railing around the cemetery and the tombstones. This all was the Fahl family farm, and where my grandfather grew up.Note:From the main road: if you drive over the small bridge over the river, and then under the railroad overpass you've gone to far to the cut off to the cemetery.
Buried here are:Johann Jost Fahl, his wife Maria Magdalena, his son Johann Dietrich, and a Maria Christina Miller who we're not sure about.Jost was a son of Johann Dietrich Fahl b.1709, and was my grx5grandfather.
2.Coming off the dirt road from the above cemetery make a right onto the main road again and make an almost immediate LEFT onto the first road (just before the river bridge).Go a short distance to just before the first house on the RIGHT.You can drive down the GRASS PATH to the back of the property.Over to the LEFT is a dumping area and right in front of that is the other cemetery.
Buried here are: Johannes (John) Fahl, his wife Mary Elizabeth, and their son Henry. This John Fahl was another grandson of Johann Dietrich Fahl b.1709.Also buried there are Henry's wife Salome, and their son Abraham...though the stones are no longer there. There are also 12 other unmarked graves at this site.
I decorate these graves at both sites, as well as other Fahl graves at St. John's Church Cemetery right in Auburn, every Memorial Day and every Christmas. If you need additional info let me know. How is your husband descended from Johann Dietrich b.1709?
Mary Lou (Fahl) Kline
