I am researching my daughter in law, Vanessa's, family and her Great Great Grandfather was an Amos Fales born in 1835 Nova Scotia, Canada. He was in Silver City, New Mexico, USA in about 1880, family lore said that he was a widower and his late wife was a Jane Baker. He Married Vanessa's Great Great Grandmother Laura Ellen Watts and they had a daugher Clara Josephine Fales DOB 4/18/1881(Vanessa' Grandmother). When Clara was 10, Amos wanted to return to Nova Scotia to visit family. Laura was not to go and Amos wanted to take Clara with him. Laura would not let this happen. Amos returned to Nova Scotia alone and just prior to reaching shore he died on the boat. He was buried in Middleton, Nova Scotia 4/1/1892. It was also thought that his father was an Oldham Fales from Canada. I haven't been able to prove this. Does this tie to your search?
