Alexander Falconar of Blackhills (1659-1749) was the third surviving son of Bishop Colin Falconar.
I know it was a custom to get other men with the same Christian name to act as sponsors for a child with the same Christian name.Undoubtedly he was regarded as a "kinsman."There were a lot of Falconers in Moray and elsewhere in Nairn. The senior line (Falconer of Halkerton) held Lethen, in the parish of Auldearn, from the 13th century to 1612.I suspect that many of the families descend from both legitimate and illegitimate sons. But the problem is that before 1550 or so there aren't enough records to document who they were----including the lairds (that is, a proven line before Alexander, living 1472-1498).Perhaps someday DNA testing will prove whether this is true or not.
